I live and work in the hills of southeastern Madison County, conveniently close to Syracuse, Cortland, Ithaca, Norwich, Utica, Rome, Oneida, and many vibrant small towns. By Federal definition, it is the northernmost tip of Appalachia. My views, and inspiration, are the rolling hills around me that shelter hollows, streams and rivers, settlements lost to time, and tough-minded hard-working people. The landscape around me presents wonderful opportunities for photography.
The office where I write sits on the side of a 2,040 foot hill affectionately known as “The Tiger”. The view from the windows encompasses meadows and woods and my closest neighbors include songbirds, squirrels, turkeys, and deer. There are no fewer than seven active year-round springs within easy walking distance of the door.
Each season brings glorious new discoveries and reminders of why this is a wonderful place to live and work. It is a good place to think, to research, to write, and shoot photographs. The surroundings inspire, refresh, and invigorate the mind as well as become a base to being exploring and photography scouting.
